About Me:
My name is Alyssa Kalen. I’m from Hilton, New York. I graduated from SUNY Brockport in December 2020. I have a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Broadcasting with a minor in Communication. I received my Associate degree in Communication at Monroe Community College in the Fall of 2019.
I discovered this path when I started at Monroe Community College. I started to take production classes like Audio Production and Video Production. I became interested in the radio industry from my experience at Monroe Community College working on commercials for the radio station WMCC The Pulse. I continued my love for video and audio editing with the class motion graphics as I transferred to Brockport in the Spring of 2019. I have learned many skills from achieving my degree Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Audition and iMovie and Microsoft Windows.
Along with my editing classes, I took a sales and marketing class that gave me a different look at the radio industry. I became assistant director of public relations at 89.1 the point at SUNY Brockport that is a student-run radio station in the fall of 2019.
In the spring of 2019, I was offered a part-time job at Entercom who runs one of the biggest stations in Rochester, NY. I’ve had the chance to talk to some of the most experienced people in the business and learned many new skills. I also got a new look into the business side of media that has caught my interest.
I was given the opportunity to have an internship with Entercom for the Spring semester of 2020 with the morning show 98PXY. This Fall of 2020, I've had the opportunity to work with a local business called Union Street Coffee House. I was the Marketing and Social media intern. I've also been working with a few other local businesses to help create social media platforms and content needed for the sites. I worked at Wags Dog Club as the social media and Event Coordinator. I currently work at the University of Rochester as a Communication Specialist for Otolaryngology.
I hope to turn my love of photography into a side business!
